California wildfires update

This information is current as of 4 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Wildfires continue to wreak havoc in southern California , forcing the evacuation and closure of Post Offices throughout the area. As a result, retail service and mail delivery was cancelled or curtailed in a number of locations.

This mail is being staged and will be delivered as soon as evacuation orders are rescinded and employees and residents can return. Alternate mail pick-up locations for some offices are listed below.

All Pacific Area Processing and Distribution facilities are open for business and accepting drop shipments for all that have appointments. The appointment requirement does not apply to Periodical mailers.

Closed until further notice with no mail delivery or retail services (Offices marked with an asterisk have alternate mail pick-up locations listed):

Los Angeles District: Malibu , CA (90265) — Malibu Colony Annex, Point Dume, La Costa Finance and Malibu Main Office are all closed.

San Diego District: Also closed are the Dulzura* (91917), Jamul* (91935), Potrero* (91963), Rancho Bernardo (92127/8), Escondido (92025), Fallbrook* (92028), Palomar Mountain (92060) Pauma Valley (92061), Ramona*(92065), Rancho Santa Fe (92067), San Marcos (92069), Santa Ysabel (92070), Valley Center (92082) and Warner Springs (92086) Post Offices.

Additionally, the Blue Jay (92317), Cedar Glen (92321), Crestline (92325), Fawnskin (92333), Green Valley Lake (92341), Lake Arrowhead (92352), Rimforest (92378), Running Springs (92382), Skyforest (92385) and Twin Peaks (92391) Post Offices have been closed.

Can be picked up at the El Cajon Main Post Office, 401 W Lexington , El Cajon CA 92020

Mail for Ramona (92065) can be picked up at the Carmel Mountain Post Office, 11251 Racho Carmelo Dr , San Diego , CA , 92128 , in Room 117, located at the south end of the building housing the Margaret Sellers Processing Distribution Center . (Room 117 is near the flagpole)

  • Bonsall CA 92003
  • Fallbrook CA 92028

Can be picked up at the Murrieta Carrier Annex, 39571 Los Alamos, Murrieta , CA , 93440

Mail will be available at the above locations starting Oct. 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Beginning Oct. 25, mail will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the above locations.

Residents are advised that proper photo I.D. will be required to pick up mail.

San Diego County Offices (ZIP Codes 919 and 920)

  • Alpine (91901), Bonita (91902), Bonsall (92003), Campo (91906), Carlsbad (92008), Carlsbad La Costa Station (92009), Chula Vista (91910), Del Mar (92014), Encinitas (92024), Julian (92036), Lakeside (92040), Lemon Grove (91945), National City (91950), Oceanside (92056), Poway (92064), Solana Beach (92075), Spring Valley (91977), Tecate (91980) and Vista (92083).

San Diego City Offices (Zip Code 921)

All city stations are experiencing some non-deliveries except for Coronado (92118), Navajo Station (92119) and Serra Mesa Station (92123).

Riverside County (ZIP Code 925)

San Jacinto (92583) and Temecula (92591).

For mailers using ‘Drop Shipment' service to drop mail directly into Post Offices, re-routing information is not available for the affected ZIP Codes at this time.

Many Post Offices are open for business despite the wildfires. Postal employees are working diligently to collect, process and deliver all available mail while also following local and state authorities' requests to honor closed roads and evacuated areas. Service will be restored as soon as conditions permit.
